ANGLE Technology Signs Three-Year Management Contract with Qatar Foundation's Science & Technology Park

VIENNA, VA, April 12, 2005 -- ANGLE Technology, an international venture management and consulting company specializing in the commercialization of technology, today announced that it has been awarded an $11 million contract over three years to manage the Qatar Foundation's Science & Technology Park (STP) until March 2009.

ANGLE will provide the Qatar Foundation, owner of the Science & Technology Park in Doha, with a specialized project team, supported by additional staff resources from the U.S. and Europe. The ANGLE project team will ensure the effective establishment and operation of the STP, which will be the emerging international hub of research and commercialization in the Middle East.

"I am delighted that ANGLE has been selected to deliver the next critical phase of STP's development,” said Dr. Gary P. Evans, CEO of ANGLE Technology's U.S. operations. “This is an important milestone for our company, placing us at the center of one of the world's most ambitious technology commercialization projects."

The Qatar Foundation's Science & Technology Park is creating the ideal environment in which to develop and commercialize technology. It provides world-class facilities and services for companies from around the globe, and is fostering start-up technology enterprises. Located in Qatar's renowned 2,500-acre Education City campus, STP tenants have access to the region's leading research universities and their highly educated graduates. The STP is a place where companies can develop their intellectual property and deliver it to the marketplace, research institutes undertake collaborative R&D and entrepreneurs create and grow start-up technology companies.

STP also will be one of Qatar's first free-trade zones, making it easy and attractive to set up a wholly-owned company in the country. By encouraging local technology development, STP is creating opportunities for the region's scientists and entrepreneurs, leading to innovations that will benefit its industry and society.

ANGLE will be responsible for leadership on strategic and operational activities, management of technology transfer issues, development of STP's physical presence and external profile, and programs supporting Qatar's technology development and commercialization of technology. ANGLE has undertaken projects in various U.S. locations including Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Montana, and the U.S. Virgin Islands; and is currently discussing additional projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as Minnesota, Arizona, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Florida.

“Over the past fifteen months, the Qatar Foundation has been impressed with ANGLE's performance to date in getting Qatar's Science & Technology Park off the ground,” said His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al Kubaisi, chairman of STP and member of the Qatar Foundation Board of Directors. “We are very confident it will continue this success over the coming years.”

STP will host companies from a range of sectors and sizes: multinational and local companies, start-ups, training and consulting firms, and research institutes. Multinational companies EADS, ExxonMobil, Microsoft, Shell and Total have already announced their intention to establish operations at STP.  They also join the world-class universities on the campus: Texas A&M University (engineering), Carnegie Mellon (computer science and business), Cornell (medicine) and Virginia Commonwealth University (design).

“We will be leading the research and commercialization process in Qatar through a range of STP programs, including the creation and growth of new technology companies, establishment of a venture capital fund and development of an entrepreneurship training and mentoring program,” Evans said. “We are pleased to be working with such a high caliber Board of Governors to the STP. This project is a further example of the kind of projects supporting technology-based economic development and commercialization that ANGLE is leading in the U.S. and internationally. By combining a depth of technical expertise with commercial experience in an international context, our projects deliver commercial and economic development benefits to our clients.”
